Relay for Life raises nearly $30,000 for American Cancer Society efforts

The 2006 Relay for Life event raised nearly $30,000 to aid the American Cancer Society's research and support programs. The quiltathon, sponsored by the Country Patchwork Quilt Guild, raised $770 selling quilt blocks, though not enough blocks were sold to finish any one of the four quilts the group started building. Work on the quilts will continue.  "We will keep plugging along. We will get them finished one way or another."  The money raised by the quiltathon during the Relay for Life will go to the American Cancer Society, but money raised from now on will go to the Fitzgibbon Hospital's efforts to raise enough money to build a cancer center.

A $10 donation will allow someone to personalize a block to honor or memoralize someone.  A quotation or other message may also be put on the block.  There are four color schemes to choose from; “vintage – multicolor, “rural” – green/tan/brown; “breast cancer” – pink, “jewel tone” – lavender/rose.  All money collected will be given to the cancer center campaign and any quilt/quilts produced will be given to the Cancer Center.  For more information about the Fitzgibbon Cancer Center click here: www.fitzgibbon.org/cancercenter.htm
