Traveling Quilt Displays
God Bless America Quilts This quilt exhibit was started by Judy Howard of Oklahoma City, OK to honor and thank the troops serving our country. They are 22x22" quilts, and they are made by anyone who wishes to honor someone serving in the military or just in honor of the United States. The theme is usually a patriotic, stars and stripes, in support of the Troops or Biblically inspired. Each quilt also includes an 18x5" story label that includes the quilt title, name of maker and their story of the quilt they made. The quilts will be auctioned off in Oct/Nov of 2011. 100% of the auction and rental profits go to non-profit organizations that made quilts for wounded soldiers. www.heavenlypatchwork.com
AND
Hoffman 2010 Challenge Quilt Exhibit
Every year, a team from Hoffman Fabrics chooses an upcoming fabric design and then issues a challenge to quilt, clothing, doll and accessory makers to create an original item using the fabric. The juried collections then travel around the country and Canada to be exhibited by different organizations. Some of the rules for the challenge for quilts are: it should be an original design, no less than 72" (18x18=72"), and no more than 160" (40x40=160"). You must use a recognizable amount of the main fabric, this year a turquoise/gold fabric, but use no more than 2 yards excluding the back or lining. You may also use any amount of any fabric you wish to use to complete your quilt. The item may be pieced, applique, or mixed and must be sturdy enough to stand up to much handling, folding, and traveling around the country to the different exhibits.
