The Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOV) is a national non-profit foundation with a mission

to provide a quilt to ALL wounded and injured service members from the War on Terror.

Machine quilted, lap size quilts are presented to our War Wounded as a thank you for the

sacrifices they have made in the defense of the freedoms and liberties we all enjoy.

The QOV Foundation was  established in 2004 and to date has presented over 15,000 quilts.

This is a quilt given to the first baby born in Howard County in 2009 by the Marshall Quilt Guild, a new tradition started by the guild this year.  Quilts were given in several other counties as well.  Darlene L. and Donna B. members of the Country Patchwork Quilt Guild delivered the quilt to the young family.

The baby, Isabella Rose is the daughter of Donnie and Veronica D. of Glasgow, born January 3, 2009.  She joins her older sister.

Photo shows mother Veronica and baby Isabella with their new quilt.

Relay for Life raises nearly $30,000 for American Cancer Society efforts

The 2006 Relay for Life event raised nearly $30,000 to aid the American Cancer Society's research and support programs. The quiltathon, sponsored by the Country Patchwork Quilt Guild, raised $770 selling quilt blocks, though not enough blocks were sold to finish any one of the four quilts the group started building. Work on the quilts will continue.  "We will keep plugging along. We will get them finished one way or another."  The money raised by the quiltathon during the Relay for Life will go to the American Cancer Society, but money raised from now on will go to the Fitzgibbon Hospital's efforts to raise enough money to build a cancer center.

Betty L of the Country Patchwork Quilters Guild pins up a block during the Relay for Life quiltathon Friday, June 16, in the Club House on the east side of the Marshall square while Michael M and Lavonne B work on quilt blocks.

A $10 donation will allow someone to personalize a block to honor or memoralize someone.  A quotation or other message may also be put on the block.  There are four color schemes to choose from; “vintage – multicolor, “rural” – green/tan/brown; “breast cancer” – pink, “jewel tone” – lavender/rose.  All money collected will be given to the cancer center campaign and any quilt/quilts produced will be given to the Cancer Center.  For more information about the Fitzgibbon Cancer Center click here: www.fitzgibbon.org/cancercenter.htm
